If you haven't already read it, you should go check out the fabulous Shweta Narayan's post on Speculative Tourism, which unpacks the difference between 'happy shiny Cultural Appropriation' and 'well-researched, culturally sensitive depictions of places that are Other to the anglophone mostly-UK/US audience'. 

Definitely a subject that needs more talking and thinking about.
